“Dr. Alvin McKinney performed a truly jaw-dropping master class for over 120 students, and blew the audience away with his skill, personality, and generosity. Dr. McKinney’s virtuosity and down to earth approach to music really connected with my students, and was inspirational in every sense of the word.”
“As a former LAUSD student I can proudly say: I was both taught and challenged by Dr. McKinney. A teacher must have dedicative passion, in order, to make a middle school music class enjoyable for all stages of music comprehension. Unlike other teachers, he taught students to be independent learners and created a functioning system where a student could teach other students. His determination spread like wild fire as he inspired students to further their skills and dive into the language of music.”
Dr. McKinney presented a Master Class for Make Music LA. Professionals, students and amateurs all had an opportunity to learn from a consummate artist the nuances of his and their most precious instrument the Saxophone. Dr. McKinney teaches with passion and love. His face lights up and his heart is full as he shares his knowledge with Master Class students. Everyone feels the music through to their souls and plays with such energy and commitment after the class that it’s miraculous and humbling.
Dr. Alvin McKinney’s ability to educate, entertain and inspire an audience of varying age groups and musical proficiency was evidenced recently in a clinic when he returned full circle to his home town of Memphis, Tennessee to work with young saxophonists. His gentle approach was satisfying to witness as he expressed his musical ideas and concepts in a manner that was both uplifting and challenging for the clinic participants.
